How it all began – our idea of the perfect jewelry store

Comeau Jewelry Co. began when Chad and Jill Comeau opened up their first store in a small space in downtown Pittsburg, KS in October 2001 and relocated to a larger location outside Meadowbrook Commons in Pittsburg in January 2004. In November 2006, Comeau Jewelry Co. opened its second location at the Northpark Crossing in Joplin, MO. Chad Comeau has over 18 years of experience at the bench and in the jewelry business. He was formally educated at the bench at Trenton Jewelry School in Memphis, TN. Prior to opening his own store, he was a bench jeweler for the fine jeweler, Tivol, in Kansas City.

Through IJO, we can buy directly from diamond cutters in Antwerp, Belgium. We will even make the trip overseas to act as your broker and hand select your diamond from the vast inventory at their disposal.

The Independent Jewelers Organization itself is an organization focused on continuing education, offering seminars on both Gemology and Industry Trends, which promote consumer protection. IJO’s GIA Title Program is a comprehensive gemological and business education program available to us.

Members have the opportunity to attend two trade shows a year where our top manufacturers exhibit the latest fashions in fine jewelry. We also have the opportunity to attend many educational seminars and to discuss with other members better ways to serve you, our clients.

Antwerp Diamond Buying Trips

As members of Independent Jewelers Organization we have the opportunity to travel to Antwerp, Belgium – the Diamond Capital of the World. We travel to Antwerp regularly to buy diamonds directly from the De Beers sight-holders. In addition to purchasing diamonds for our store, we also serve as a diamond broker for some of our customers, personally selecting a unique diamond for them in Antwerp. Owner/Master Jeweler

Chad is a 25-year veteran of the jewelry industry. A high school art class was the start of what would become a life-long passion for the art and creation of fine jewelry. As a young jeweler Chad worked at Tivol Jewels of Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, arguably the Midwest’s most prestigious jeweler. After gaining several years’ experience Chad was ready to use his skills in a new way. In 2001, Chad and his young family returned home to Pittsburg, KS where he and his wife Jill opened Comeau Jewelry Co. Operating out of a tiny store front on Broadway Chad began offering the community something it was lacking, a traditional “mom and pop” jewelry store offering full service repairs and custom work done on the premises along with hand selected diamonds and fine jewelry. Today Chad still oversees the daily operations of the business and devotes much of his time to working with his customers and guiding his sons as they have begun apprenticing into the family business.

Jill’s career in the jewelry industry began when she and her husband Chad moved back to her hometown of Pittsburg, KS to open their first store, Comeau Jewelry Co. Though not a jeweler, she is a self-proclaimed “Jill of all trades” and enjoys most all creative pursuits. As the couple’s family has grown and children keep her very busy, Jill’s time at the store is mostly spent behind the scene’s assisting in marketing, bookkeeping and merchandising. Jill also holds an AJP and is a Graduate of the Diamonds Program from the Gemological Institute of America.

Joplin Store Manager

Chris is the store manager at the Joplin, MO location. Chris has a combined 15 years of experience in the jewelry business. He is a Graduate Gemologist as well as an Accredited Jewelry Professional from the Gemological Institute of America. He received formal bench training at New Approach School for Jewelry in Virginia Beach, VA. Chris received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from Pittsburg State University in 2004.

Hilary has been with Comeau Jewelry Company since June 2009. She is an Accredited Jewelry Professional and will soon begin work towards her Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. She is a proud graduate of Pittsburg State University. Go-Rillas!

Customer Service Specialist – Joplin

Megan has over 11 years of experience in the jewelry business and has been with Comeau Jewelry since November 2010. Megan has a degree from Pittsburg State University majoring in Broadcasting and Political Science. She is in charge of all social media for our business. Megan recently earned her Graduate Diamond Degree through GIA and is an Accredited Jewelry Professional from the Gemological Institute of America.

Joining the Comeau Jewelry family in January 2016, Margo has her degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing from Pittsburg State University and is a Accredited Jewelry Professional from the Gemological Institute of America.

Bench Jeweler - Pittsburg

Stuart is the newest member of the Comeau Jewelry staff and the oldest son of owners Chad and Jill Comeau. He is a graduate of the New Approach School of Jewelry in Franklin, TN where he studied under Blaine Lewis. Stuart’s love of jewelry comes naturally as he has literally grown up in a jewelry store. He is also a very talented artist who enjoys drawing and comic book style art.
